I love so many songs on this playlist. This whole Girls album brings up so many nostalgic feelings for me. I love that power-pop record, and think it’s a shame they didn’t get a chance to make more. I know a few people think I started this playlist off on a weak note with that track, but I stand by it. That album is full of rich feeling, and its simplicity is unbelievably charming. I’d recommend that album to anyone and feel good about it, even knowing that it’s not suited to everybody’s tastes.

Nadia - Jeff Beck

If you only listened to one song off this playlist, I would say check out Jeff Beck’s “Nadia.” It’s an amazing demonstration of a guitarist adapting to new styles of music. With a jungle breakbeat and a clubby backdrop, the former Yardbird’s guitarist adds these beautiful guitar melodies to a genre that doesn’t expect it. It’s so unlike anything else that his peers made, and such a unique reinvention of the guitar’s role in different styles of music.

Silly Games - Wayne Snow

Wayne Snow’s “Silly Games” was a standout with its amazing vibe and feeling. This one is minimal and has everything it needs.

Some Velvet Morning - Lee Hazlewood

Lee Hazlewood’s arrangements are second to none in old Hollywood production, so silky and smooth and still incredibly influential in the music world today. I always love the way he relishes the word “straight” on this song. Some velvet morning when I’m straight. It’s a great example of how you can change a song’s feeling with attitude alone.

Mother Nature’s Bitch - Okay Kaya

It’s strange and bizarre, and something about the unserious vocal delivery brings me a lot of joy.
