I took this photo on a shoot with a few of the skaters in Grl Swrl, a female-run skate collective. This is a darkroom print from that negative - I love the freedom in this shot - how it feels like it’s from another time but it’s hard to pin down the ‘when.’ Jazmine Sullivan’s “Pick Up Your Feelings” was one of my top songs this month. I couldn’t get enough of it. I’m always amazed when I look into a song and realize that it’s the same three chords repeating from start to finish, but still, the chorus feels huge and different. I was also into the call and response of The Raconteurs’ song “Level,” one I’d forgotten about until recently.

This 1966 track is just about as perfect as a pop song from that era can get.

Sonic Reducer - Dead Boys

This is a recommendation I pulled from Anthony Bourdain’s Kitchen Confidential. It’s a little heavier for some palates, but sometimes this kind of sludge hits just right.

Scorton’s Creek - Isaac Dunbar

Isaac Dunbar has a great ear for melodies, and this one in particular was one I couldn’t get out of my head. Looking back now, I’m surprised to see that they switched out the recording on streaming. This one is good, still, but it is a different version from the one I came to love.
